Lipedema-Friendly Outfits Never Underestimate a Black Maxidress

Hi friends!  I get questions almost daily about how women can dress to hide their lipedema and still look nice. I’m having so much fun and learning a ton while I put together the outfits to share for you, and hope that as time goes on, I can get even more ideas out there for you and have a good catalogue of ideas to share.

This month I’m featuring ways to style a basic $33 black maxi dress from Amazon.  It is such a versatile piece that looks mainstream and it can be dressed from super casual to super dressy with just a few accessory changes.  I hope you have fun and get a few ideas for how you can use your black maxi dress.

Here’s the real dress I bought from Amazon in a size 3x.  I normally wear a 24 and am 5 feet nine inches tall.

And how it looks on me just plain:

Outfit #1 is paired with a basic denim shirt, a wide belt from Amazon, a fun, blue necklace, and my signature Drew Rose Mary Jane shoes, from Amazon.

Outfit #2 is with a kimono I bought from Amazon and used in a previous outfit.  It really changes the look to like a free-spirited, artsy girl. I’m wearing them with a metallic belt from Torrid and the most comfortable sandals ever, from Aravon.

Outfit #3 is my favorite.  It’s my, “I’m going in to work to fire someone’s butt,” look (I’ve never fired anyone).  This is paired with one of a zillion work jackets I have that I used to pair with black trousers before I changed to more dresses and skirts.  Sadly I can’t find this exact jacket, but here’s a similar one on Amazon. I paired it with a Gucci-style (closest to Gucci I’ll ever own!) belt, and my favorite David Tate boots that have elastic on both sides and are easy to pull on.  Think any suit jacket (especially drape front like this one!) with this black dress, and I think it’ll look great.

Outfit #4 is another work outfit for sure.  This time I paired it it with a black work jacket, no belt, and a nice, colorful scarf (here’s a similar one) that I already had. I’m wearing a pair of Aravon sandals that I love the heck out of and will have to replace this summer.  So adjustable and comfy!

Outfit #5 is paired with a basic little cardigan that I think I bought as part of a twinset (here’s a similar one).  Kind of a casual Friday type look.  I like it.  In the first picture I’m showing you my Bioflect capri leggings and the same Aravon sandals that I can’t get enough of.

Outfit #6 really shows that you can put a work blouse right on top of the maxidress.  I had this one, and think I’d like to try other work blouses too.  It’s interesting how changing the top can slim or, in this case, not slim your sillouette.

Outfit #7 is what happens when I pair a fancy pants work shirt, a belt, and red sandals with the dress.  I wanted to see what it’d look like if the belt were on top.  From what I’m seeing in the pics, I think I prefer the belts on the inside, or maybe a wider belt on top, but it’s good to know!  The top is an Investments brand from Dillards.  I don’t know that they carry this specific one anymore, but I remember when I bought it I thought, yeah, it’s an investment, alright! But you get the idea that a button down top would be cute.  Also, tying it in the front would be SO cute.

Outfit #8 is my casual and sporty look.  I tied the bottom of the dress in a little knot, and just grabbed a shirt to tie around my waist, threw on my New Balance tennis shoes and had fun!  Love this look.

WHEW!  That was fun!  I hope you enjoy!!!  Now go get that maxi dress!
