It is Important to Educate Young Women about Lipedema – Don’t Wait Until Your 30’s

Legs Like Mine: You're not alone.

Hi there friends!

I’ve sent out quite a few LegsLikeMine Girl Scout fun patches this week.  I wanted to take a minute to tell you why this is important to me.

Studies show that lipedema symptoms start at or even before puberty, but that it’s not diagnosed until mid 30’s to late 40’s in the majority of cases.  That means that the disease has all this time between puberty and diagnosis to wreak havoc on young women’s bodies.

Imagine what it would be like if young girls recgonized it, and sought help early.  Imaging what it would be like if future doctors and nurses knew about lipedema before entering college, and remembered even the name of the disease when they went into practice and saw that first patient trying to get help?  We could really prevent some progression of the disease if we can get to girls earlier.

Here’s my video on the Program, and the details of where you can get the directions.  www.legslikemine.com/girlscouts.
