Hi friends!
Many of us have knee issues related to lipedema, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or osteoarthritis. And we could really benefit from maxi sized knee braces to help us along.
In the journey of maintaining an active and fulfilling lifestyle, few things are as crucial as having strong and healthy knees. These remarkable joints bear the weight of our body, enabling us to walk, run, jump, get out of chairs on our own and partake in countless activities that make life enjoyable. However, with the wear and tear of daily life, injuries, or conditions like hypermobility, arthritis, our knees may become vulnerable and hinder our mobility. This is where the power of knee braces comes into play. Providing targeted support and stability, these ingenious devices can be a game-changer for anyone seeking to enhance their mobility, regain confidence, and embrace life’s adventures with renewed vigor.
Lipedema ladies could really use good knee braces that are easy to get, affordable, adjustable, and comfortable. But we also have our unique lipedema legs with larger than standard circumferences, which makes it such a challenge to find them. For years (and I mean YEARS), I’ve been frustrated by the lack of knee braces that fit on the market for me. I wanted to share a couple of items I’ve found recently because I think these might help many of us.
First is one I’m planning to try – the BraceAbility. I’ve just stumbled on it this morning and wrote the company a request for a gifted sample, so I can review it for you. When it comes in, I’ll be sure to try it out and share how it feels and all that. Officially called, the
BraceAbility Obesity Hinged Knee Pain Brace – Overweight Men and Women’s Wraparound Plus-Size Support for Osteoarthritis, Joint Pain, Ligament Weakness, Medial and Lateral Kneecap Instability,” you can find this baby on Amazon. Check this out. It fits a calf circumference up to 34 inches! Here’s the link to purchase:
Next up is the Copper Compression Extra Support Orthopedic Knee Brace for Sprains & Injury. It’s also available on Amazon. The folks at Copper Compression sent me one to try, but sadly it is too small. I believe this is ideal for someone with knee circumference of 18 inches or smaller. Made of very breathable neoprene and hook and loop material, this is constructed similarly to several compression wraps I wear when my legs are really swollen, and my favorite part about this knee brace is that it’s adjustable. My feedback to the company would be to make one more size up, adding fabric to the area with the most coverage to attract clients who have leg swelling or offer very wide extension straps since the outside of the entire brace is primarily Velcro. That might open them up to our market while not leaving “holes of doom” for swelling to puff out of.
Here’s a link to purchase the copper compression, with it’s $25 price point:
All in all, I’m hopeful that we will get our knee braces soon, with so many of us lipedema ladies also experiencing hypermobility, the market is waiting for someone to meet the need of size, comfort and adjustability pretty soon.
If BraceAbility sends me a gifted brace, I’ll review it as soon as I can so we can see if they got it right. Until next time, do all you can to keep moving, and remember to take care of your knees!
