Hi friends!
Who loves Halloween but hates the store-bought costumes that start with the word, SEXY. Like Sexy witch, Sexy cheerleader, so on and so forth. That means super low cut and super leg baring, which I am not a fan of as a lady with lipedema. I love making my own costumes and being a little bit creative, so this post is perfect for folks like that!
I’ve put together so many fun costumes that incorporate or camouflage my compression wear, that I’m having to split it up into three separate blogs for you this week! Most of the costumes use pieces I have in my wardrobe and add one or two accessories or little crafts I put together inexpensively to complete the look.
On today’s list:
My version of Minnie Mouse
Here are my pieces and parts:
A Fortune Teller
Next up is a fortune teller, which really is a bunch of stuff I grabbed from around the house. The gist of it is wear way, way too much eye makeup and all the bracelets you cand find, and then a bunch of necklaces. Put this on top of your compression pants, a long, flowy skirt, and a dark top (the top I’m wearing is the actual one linked below – I’ve used it in other lipedema friendly outfit posts), and then something flowy on top. I then took a pashmina I use for travel, and pinned just 8 inches of this coin trim I got at Hobby lobby for less than $1 on it, and tied it back. My ‘crystal ball’ is a snow globe blank that I bought at Hobby Lobby on sale for $5. “Look into my empty snow globe….” So goofy, but it kinda works.
Here are some sample pieces and parts that could make this look happen:
A Bank Robber, a Gondolier, a Mime, a Prisoner (it’s all about the shirt, the props and the attitude)
So if you ever get a striped costume shirt, NEVER let it go. It’s so versatile. Today I turned it into a bank robber by putting it over compression and then a basic black skirt and boots, and I added a $2 canvas bag I bought at Hobby Lobby and then drew a $ on it, and a flashlight from the junk drawer. I then grabbed a stocking cap from the coat closet and hand cut a twenty-five cent piece of felt into a basic mask. Then I snuck around…
Seriously though, here are the Drew Kool boots I’ve owned for a few years now and I LOVE THEM.
But then I change out the look and feel and turned myself into a gondolier. You could add a big brimmed hat and a gondola to make it more authentic. Oh wait, a gondola stick. Because a gondola is big. LOL.
Well wait a minute, I could use that shirt to be a mime too, and one year I used it to be the Hamburglar…and then the difference would be…the silence or the hamburger. Hey! OK and the makeup. Anyway, NEVER let this shirt go.
My shirt came from a costume store ages ago, but here’s something similar on Amazon. They will have these at spirit Halloween for sure.
A Bubble Gum Machine
OK this one was super fun. I took that same red skirt that I used in the Minnie Mouse costume above, and then I bought a $2.99 shirt from Hobby Lobby and I traced a serving plate with a sharpie on it to represent a gum machine, then I used dollar tree fabric glue to stick on a bag of pom poms from HobLob. Then I used part of a piece of purple craft foam and a sharpie to make the gum dispenser, and I tied a red bandana around my head. I think it’s super cute. And it was CHEAP! And I can use arm compression under it for a better base.
The Burger King, himself
My favorite costume of the day is none other than The Burger King. My sister’s afraid of him, and I’ve been wanting to do this costume for a while. I’m bad, I know. OK, the base is the same red skirt we’ve been using, and the same belt from ‘ol Minnie Mouse above.
I bought a Larace yellow top (I wear this brand all the time), and then I did splurge and buy two things here, a King Kit, and I actually found a burger king mask on ebay. BUT, you can literally make your own by printing it on paper and then gluing it to cardboard. For FREE. I made a BK necklace by printing out their logo, gluing it onto cardboard, and then attaching that to a purse strap I grabbed at HobLob for $3. Easy Peasy and I’m gonna get my sister good!
An 80’s Punk Rocker
So this one’s all about the wig. I borrowed it from my mother-in-law, who is the Queen of Halloween. I found the exact wig on Amazon for $14. I used a mini skirt and colorful top I already own, and then borrowed my husband’s leather jacket for the shoot. You have to have that attitude if you’re gonna rock.
Have fun this Halloween and stay tuned tomorrow for several more outfits!
Boo!

OK we all know this one is just a giant ad. Contains paid ads. As an Amazon associate, I get earnings on sales from your clicks.
