Fall 2023 Lipedema Friendly Outfits – Date Night / World Domination Black Outfit

Hi Friends!

I’m just going to say, I love this freaking outfit! Before I started wearing compression, I never would have worn a just-below-the-knee skirt and been happy about it.  Now that I wear compression, it has opened up so many opportunities to try different lengths with more confidence.

Let’s start at the bottom of this rockin’ boss babe outfit. Any black shoe will do.  Today I’m wearing a Walking Cradle loafer in a 13WW.  It’s a bit of a squeeze depth-wise at the end of a long day of photo shooting, but these have excellent arch support and are basic ‘don’t look at my feet’ black, which is fine. I’m also sharing my David Tate Chelsea boots as these would look amazing and the Chelsea cut offers flexibility in the calf sizing at this height. (I prefer zipper free Chelsea styles to avoid rubbing.)

Next up the leg is the Czalus summer weight compression (18-22 mmHg compression).   If you’ve followed me for a long time, you know I tend to wear Bioflect compression (14 mmHg, micromassaging).  I opted for Czalus today because I’m shooting in August and any bit of heat relief I can get helps, and this weight is a wee bit lighter than my go-to’s.

Now I’ve got a faux leather below the knee pencil skirt.  The one I’m wearing is new, from Ashley Stewart, but I see it’s not on the menu any longer for shipping.  I picked a similar style on Amazon (always check the waist sizes on Amazon before buying!), and another one from Torrid to share with you today.  (I will wear Torrid when I find a good bargain, although their styles are typically designed for a younger look than appeals to me.)  Note, dear friends: Faux leather can be noisy when you walk, and sometimes a little, well, sweaty.  If you don’t like this, opt for a jersey knit or cotton skirt.

I’ve got on a wonderful long-sleeved top that just came out at Kohl’s.  I love it because the size 3x top is ample for my 44DD top without leaving the dreaded boob gap, and the material is light and airy, which I appreciate year-round.

I found this amazing chain belt at Cato on sale in a size 1x/2x, and my normally size 24W frame wears it fine, with about six inches of chain to spare, so this could easily fit up to a 4x.  I’m linking to Cato (above) and to a similar belt I’ve found on Amazon for you.  Note the CATO version is 57 inches long while the Amazon one I’ve selected is 53 inches long.  There are many to pick from on Amazon.

I think my favorite piece of this outfit is the black duster.  I just got it in from Amazon and I’m planning to feature a couple of outfits with it, one being jeans, which I rarely wear these days because I don’t like full on compression under jeans (I just get SO hot – year round!).  Anyway, I love this outfit.  I feel like one of the stars from The MATRIX when I wear this and also that I could walk into a board meeting and sit my rear end right in the power chair at the end of the table, where we belong, in this look.

I know as lipedema ladies, many of us go years with only wearing black bottoms, but this outfit is different, it screams, “I’m in charge, people” and,  “Look at me because I know where to lead us.”  I hope you find the confidence to wear fun fabrics like this, and fancy gold belts to up the look a little bit.  I can’t tell you how good it feels with just a little effort!

Enjoy!  Now go be a BadA$$!
