I have memories of going shoe shopping with my mom, who was relatively thin but had Lipedema and didn’t know it. So many times she’d try on boots and end up getting mad and throwing them down when the boots wouldn’t zip.
Over the years, we’ve stumbled on a few pair that fit – they usually had the entire backs as an elastic fabric. When we did, we’d buy them up. The most notable were a pair that I got from a plus-sized store in the US called Avenue. Of course, I never saw them again after that first year. I have one other pair that fit, but they have a higher heel, and I’ve since moved on to Sensible Shoes so they’re not really an option for me.
I decided that one of my goals with LegsLikeMine is to begin to create some products that will help my own problems, and it turns out, the problems of 11% of women in the world. (Still amazes me when I hear this fact). I’m working right now on a design for a boot that I plan to patent and I think it’s going to be LIFE CHANGING.
In the meantime, during my research I’ve discovered a company, owned by a woman, that makes these incredible little devices called BOOT BANDS. I’ve emailed and asked to set up an affiliate arrangement, but the company isn’t offering this just yet. I feel so strongly about this product, that we’ve all needed, that I’m just going to buy some and review them in a few weeks.
In the meantime, this is too good to hold in to myself. Here’s the link to the product I’m talking about. Let’s hope, hope, hope, that they work, and frankly, extend enough. Kudos to inventor Krista Barnett for solving problems that affect many of us!
